For 2026, elective deferrals are capped at $24,500 across your 401(k)/403(b) plans, and total annual additions may reach $72,000 before catch-up, depending on compensation and plan calculations.
Real estate inside a retirement account
Where the plan document allows it and the institution supports it, plan assets may include real property or private notes. Prohibited-transaction rules restrict dealings with disqualified persons, including you, and all income and expenses must run through the plan.

Can the plan buy a rental property?
It may, where the plan document permits it and the bank or custodian supports it. The plan takes title, the plan pays expenses and the plan receives the income. You cannot use the property personally.
Can I earn a commission on a plan purchase?
Transactions involving you or other disqualified persons can be prohibited transactions with serious tax consequences. Review any such arrangement with your own tax or legal adviser first.
What about my brokerage's plan?
If you are a 1099 contractor you are generally running your own business, which is why an owner-only plan can be relevant. Your specific arrangement should be reviewed.
